Exploring Carbon-Negative Biomanufacturing at Industrial Scale

BECCS harnesses the power of growing biomass, typically from sustainably managed woodland waste, which acts as a natural carbon sink by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. Biomass is combusted to generate bioenergy and the emissions are captured using an integrated point-source CCS techology.

BECCS is bottlenecked by the limited supply of biomass and the access to CCS infrastructure. CyanoCapture's installations can achieve durable sequestration of CO2 from biogenic emission sites, eliminiating the need for CCS injection facilities.

The Benefits Of Cyanobacterial Biomass

Addressing a global shortage in biomass

Cyanobacteria can capture CO2 and produce biomass with 50-80x less surface area than a mature forest due to its high CO2 fixation rates and areal efficiency of solar conversion. Biomass can be used to meet the demand for feedstocks for biomass combustion.

Zero transportation costs

On site, all-year round production of biomass without the need to transport biomass in trucks across hundreds of kilometres. Currently, BECCS involves logistical challenges which render the LCA less favourable due to emissions associated with transportation.

On site sequestration

CO2 can be sequestered as bio-graphite directly at the point of capture using our process, eliminating the need for CO2 transportation and further energy-intensive compression processes to generate the liquified CO2 required for geological injection off-site.
